Japan-U.S. Joint Exercise "Keen Sword 27" to Begin on October 19
The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) Joint Staff has announced that the Japan-U.S. joint integrated exercise "Keen Sword 27" will be held from October 19 to 29. This exercise is the largest-scale training event conducted within Japan.
This year's exercise will take place at various JSDF facilities across Japan. The JSDF and the U.S. military plan to conduct training to respond to a variety of situations through cooperation. The objective is to further strengthen the partnership between the two nations.
Of particular note is the plan to deploy weaponry to the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa Prefecture. The Sakishima Islands are located in the southwestern part of Japan, and training in this region is considered to have significant implications for regional security.
Through this exercise, the JSDF and the U.S. military will confirm their readiness to cooperate swiftly in the event of a contingency. As a large number of personnel and equipment will be mobilized during the exercise period, attention is also being directed toward the impact on surrounding areas.
