METI Strengthens Recruitment of STEM Talent in India: Tech Japan Joins New Program

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has launched a new program called "GS-Japan Tech Talent Internship" to attract outstanding overseas STEM talent to Japanese companies. Tech Japan, which supports the recruitment of international talent, has joined this initiative to assist in enhancing the technological capabilities and globalization of Japanese firms.

This program positions India as a particularly important hub. India produces many world-class engineers in fields such as IT, AI, and semiconductors, making it a vital partner for Japanese industry. Through this program, it is expected that opportunities for Indian students and young professionals to experience internships at Japanese companies will increase.

In Japan, there is a shortage of personnel with specialized knowledge in the fields of IT, AI, and semiconductors due to the advancement of digital technology. The government aims to resolve this issue by actively accepting outstanding talent from countries referred to as the "Global South," starting with India.

Moving forward, as this program strengthens the ties between Japanese companies and overseas students, it is expected that Japan's technological innovation will accelerate. An increase in the number of foreign engineers working in Japan will transform the Japanese business environment into a more diverse and international one.
