What is the "Global South" IT Talent Acquisition Program Promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry?
The Japan Association of New Economy (JANE) recently held an online seminar focused on acquiring science and engineering talent in the fields of IT, AI, and semiconductors. During the seminar, the practical application of the "Global South – Japan Tech Talent Internship Program," implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, was explained in detail.
Currently, the Japanese IT industry is facing a shortage of personnel with specialized skills, such as engineers, making the acquisition of talent from overseas a critical issue. In particular, collaboration with countries referred to as the "Global South," which are experiencing remarkable economic growth, is one of the essential strategies for maintaining and developing Japan's technological capabilities.
This seminar introduced concrete steps for how companies can connect with outstanding overseas students and engineers and lead them to employment through internships. Participating companies raised many questions regarding the support systems for accepting overseas talent and the preparations required for them to work at Japanese firms.
JANE intends to continue its efforts to promote a proper understanding of e-business and IT, ensuring that Japanese industries can enhance their global competitiveness. It is hoped that this program will serve as a catalyst for many Japanese companies to acquire international talent.
