Drone sighting causes flight suspensions at Jeju International Airport in South Korea
On the night of August 31, an unauthorized drone appeared near Jeju International Airport in South Korea. As a result, aircraft takeoffs and landings at the airport were suspended for approximately 35 minutes.
Jeju International Airport is a vital hub used by many tourists. Because the drone was flying in the area, operations had to be urgently halted to ensure safety. This incident caused significant disruption for passengers, including delays to numerous flights.
In South Korea, flying drones without permission in the vicinity of airports is strictly prohibited by law. However, 115 cases of similar illegal drone flights have already been detected so far this year, raising growing concerns regarding airport safety.
Drone flights near airports are a very serious issue due to the risk of collisions with aircraft. Authorities plan to impose strict penalties on drone operators and strengthen surveillance around the airport.
