Immigration Services Agency to Strengthen Measures Against Illegal Foreign Employment, Conducting Joint Investigations with Other Ministries

The Immigration Services Agency of Japan has decided to launch new measures to reduce illegal employment of foreign nationals within the country. Moving forward, the agency plans to strengthen on-site inspections of companies in cooperation with other government ministries.

This initiative aims to uncover foreign nationals who are working in violation of the law. While the Immigration Services Agency has conducted crackdowns on illegal employment in the past, it plans to expand the scope of its investigations starting this autumn by collaborating with other ministries.

The first joint investigation is expected to be carried out as early as October in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Demolition contractors and similar businesses operating at construction sites are being considered as the targets of these inspections. Although the construction industry continues to face labor shortages, the goal is to strictly monitor employment that has not undergone proper procedures.

This move is intended to properly regulate the working environment for foreign nationals in Japan. By reducing illegal employment while protecting foreign workers and companies that follow the rules, the government aims to foster a healthier society.
