Large-scale military exercise 'Han Kuang 42' begins in Taiwan
On the 5th, Taiwan's armed forces began the live-fire phase of their annual large-scale military exercise, "Han Kuang 42." The exercise is scheduled to take place over a 10-day period, concluding on the 14th.
On the first day of this year's exercise, a scenario was simulated in which enemy forces approached Taiwan using militia vessels and coast guard ships. Amidst the increasingly severe security environment surrounding Taiwan, the military is verifying its defensive capabilities in a manner closely resembling actual combat.
This exercise aims to enhance Taiwan's defense capabilities, with the army, navy, and air force conducting joint training. In particular, the focus is on confirming procedures for how to respond in the event of an actual attack.
Taiwan's security is also a matter of great importance to Japan. Given the heightened tensions in the surrounding waters, there is significant interest within Japan regarding the progress of this exercise.
The exercise will continue until the 14th, and the Taiwanese military plans to conduct training based on various simulated situations throughout the period. Through this exercise, the government and the military aim to identify challenges in their defense posture and strive for further strengthening.
