Large-scale integrated defense exercise conducted in Taiwan to verify capabilities in the event of a contingency
The Taiwanese military is conducting a large-scale "integrated defense exercise" simulating a scenario in which enemy forces invade its territorial waters. This exercise, which aims to enhance the ability of the Army, Navy, and Air Force to fight in coordination, is now in its third day.
In this exercise, particular emphasis is placed on the decentralization of the command structure. This is to ensure that even if military headquarters were to come under attack in an emergency, units across various regions would still be able to coordinate and continue their defense. Training to detect enemy forces and respond rapidly is being repeated.
During the exercise period, training was also conducted during late-night hours to protect key locations, such as those within Taipei City. Armored vehicles known as "Cloud Leopard" were deployed throughout the city to conduct urban defense simulations.
The security environment surrounding Taiwan is also extremely important for Japan. This exercise is drawing attention as an indication of how Taiwan is strengthening its own defense posture amidst rising regional tensions.
