Taiwan considers countermeasures following Morocco's suspension of visa applications

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it is considering countermeasures regarding the issue of the Moroccan government suspending the acceptance of electronic visa (e-Visa) applications for Taiwanese citizens. Currently, those traveling from Taiwan to Morocco for tourism or business purposes cannot use the e-Visa system and must instead apply for a visa confirmation document individually through Moroccan diplomatic missions abroad, such as the embassy in Japan, which places a significant burden on travelers.

In response to this issue, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has repeatedly requested improvements from the Moroccan side, but the situation has yet to be resolved. Taiwanese passports are highly trusted globally, with visa exemptions or simplified procedures granted by many countries. Consequently, the Moroccan government's current stance is perceived by Taiwan as unfair treatment.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly urged the Moroccan government to "resume normal exchanges as soon as possible." Furthermore, the Taiwan government has hinted at the possibility of implementing reciprocal countermeasures, such as reviewing visa issuance conditions for Moroccan nationals, based on the principle of equality.

This move reflects Taiwan's stance of demonstrating a firm attitude in the international community to protect the rights of its citizens. The Taiwan government intends to continue seeking, through dialogue with the Moroccan side, to restore an environment where tourism and business exchanges can proceed smoothly.
