From Okinawa to Africa: Young People Aiming for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Okinawa Prefecture are advancing a new initiative aimed at development and peacebuilding in Africa. This project values "ownership," where the people of Africa forge their own future, as well as international cooperative relationships.
Okinawa is a region that has historically cherished peace, and it is hoped that this experience will be shared with the youth of Africa. Through this partnership, both sides are engaged in ongoing discussions to resolve Africa's economic development and social challenges.
In this initiative, the concept of "Youth Innovation Leadership" is particularly emphasized. This supports the next generation of young people as they bring new ideas to the table and grow into leaders who can change society.
By collaborating across the great distance between Okinawa and Africa, a new path is being paved toward global peace and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Attention remains focused on the future that will be shaped by the power of these young people.
