Bipartisan Parliamentary Group Holds First Meeting to Discuss "Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait"
The bipartisan study group "Parliamentarians for Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait," established in June, held its first meeting at the National Diet on the 13th. This group is a new organization created for Japanese lawmakers to discuss the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
At this inaugural meeting, the participants shared the recognition that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of vital importance to Japan. The attending lawmakers exchanged views on regional security and economic ties.
Furthermore, the meeting included criticism of movements that restrict freedom of speech. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and indicated their intention to continue monitoring issues related to the Taiwan Strait.
This study group plans to hold meetings on a regular basis moving forward. Attention is focused on the future activities of the group and how the lawmakers will deepen their discussions to maintain peaceful relations between Japan and Taiwan.
