Cross-party parliamentary group on peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait holds its first meeting
The cross-party study group "Parliamentary Group for Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait," established in June, held its first meeting at the Diet building on the 13th. This group was formed to bring together Japanese lawmakers to discuss the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
During this meeting, a shared recognition was established that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of vital importance to Japan. The participating lawmakers exchanged views on regional security and discussed future policy directions for the group.
Furthermore, the meeting touched upon the suppression of freedom of speech. The lawmakers strongly condemned the situation where free speech is being suppressed and emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values.
This study group plans to hold meetings on a regular basis moving forward. The situation surrounding the Taiwan Strait is attracting global attention, and the future developments regarding how the Japanese Diet deepens its discussions on the matter are being closely watched.
