Taiwanese traveler denied entry and deported from Uganda
According to Taiwan's major newspaper "United Daily News," a trouble occurred in early August of this year when a Taiwanese traveler visiting Uganda for tourism purposes was denied entry at the local airport. The traveler was not granted entry by the local immigration officer and was subsequently deported back to Taiwan.
In Uganda, confusion can sometimes arise during immigration checks for travelers holding Taiwanese passports. In this case as well, it is possible that the local immigration authorities were unable to correctly recognize the Taiwanese passport, leading to a failure in following proper procedures.
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking this issue very seriously. A spokesperson for the ministry stated that they plan to negotiate with the Ugandan government as soon as possible to ensure that Taiwanese citizens are not subjected to unfair treatment abroad.
Currently, the Taiwanese government is urging citizens who plan to travel to Uganda to check the latest entry requirements. When enjoying overseas travel, it is important to gather information in advance regarding how the destination country handles Taiwanese passports.
