Donbei 50th Anniversary: New "No Toppings" Product Focused Entirely on Dashi Released
Nissin Foods has announced the release of a unique new product to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its popular cup noodle series, "Nissin no Donbei." This new product differs significantly from previous Donbei offerings, with its most notable feature being the complete absence of "toppings" such as meat or vegetables.
Two varieties will be introduced: "Nissin no Donbei: Katsuodashi no Kiwami Udon" and "Nissin no Donbei: Katsuodashi no Kiwami Soba." Each will be priced at 268 yen (excluding tax) and is scheduled to go on sale at stores across Japan starting May 25th.
Why are there no toppings? According to Nissin Foods, they poured all their efforts into maximizing the deliciousness of the "dashi" (broth) for this release. As a result of their extreme pursuit of dashi aroma and flavor, they made the bold decision to intentionally omit toppings. This allows consumers to fully savor the original deep flavor of the dashi and the texture of the noodles.
This "no toppings" experiment is already becoming a major topic of conversation on social media and the internet. While the familiar "fried tofu" and "tempura" found in regular Donbei are missing, this highlights the company's immense confidence in the quality of the dashi.
Released at the 50th-anniversary milestone, this new product proposes a new way to enjoy instant noodles. All eyes are on how consumers will receive this "ultimate dashi," which was prioritized even at the expense of removing toppings.
