Number of Foreign Residents in Japan Hits Record High of 4.28 Million
The Immigration Services Agency of Japan announced on the 16th that the number of foreign residents living in Japan reached 4,281,026 as of the end of June this year. This figure is the highest since statistics began.
The number of foreigners living in Japan has been increasing year by year. According to the latest announcement, this trend is believed to be driven by an increase in people staying in Japan for various purposes, such as work and study.
Meanwhile, the government is also strengthening measures against those staying in Japan illegally. The latest data shows that the number of illegal overstayers has decreased by 4.8% compared to the previous survey.
The government continues to work on creating an environment where foreigners can live in Japan with peace of mind, while also ensuring appropriate management of rules. Moving forward, the acceptance of foreigners into Japanese society and the development of their living environment are expected to remain key issues.
