Coach Moriyasu to Continue Until 2027; Kickoff Times for National Team Matches Announced
It has been decided that Hajime Moriyasu, the head coach of the Japan national football team, will remain in his position even after the 2026 World Cup. Additionally, details such as the kickoff times for the next international friendly matches have been announced to help fans plan their viewing schedules.
Japan national team head coach Hajime Moriyasu (57) has agreed to continue leading the team until the Asian Cup (a tournament where Asian national teams compete), which will be held in Saudi Arabia in January 2027, following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. While a contract extension for a limited period of six months is unusual, the policy is that no further contract extensions will be granted after that, regardless of the tournament's results.
Furthermore, the kickoff times for the first international friendly matches after the World Cup have been officially finalized. Key players such as Ko Itakura and Takehiro Tomiyasu are expected to be featured in the national team, and preparations are moving forward for the first match under the new term.
