Taiwan Authorities Aim to Standardize Drone Regulations with Japan, Set to Consult with Private Organizations

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed its intention to collaborate with countries and regions such as Japan and the Philippines to standardize regulations and certification systems for drones (unmanned aerial vehicles). This is a significant initiative aimed at promoting the safe and efficient operation of drones.

The discussions were held with executives from the Japan UAS Industrial Development Association (JUIDA). The Taiwanese side emphasized the necessity of harmonizing drone rules across Japan, the Philippines, and surrounding regions included in the second island chain.

Currently, drone regulations and safety standards vary from country to country. If standards are unified, it is expected that drone manufacturing and operation will become smoother, facilitating cross-border cooperation in fields such as disaster relief and logistics.

Taiwanese authorities state that they intend to continue deepening cooperation with private organizations to contribute to the creation of international standards. For Japan as well, establishing rules with neighboring regions will likely become increasingly important for the development of drone technology and its safe operation.
