Japan National Team Coach Moriyasu to Stay On with Short-Term Contract Until Next March
It has been revealed that Hajime Moriyasu (57), the head coach of the Japan national football team, will continue to lead the team. Although Japan was eliminated in the recently held World Cup, the Japan Football Association (JFA) has decided to keep Moriyasu in charge for the time being.
This contract is expected to take the unusual form of a "short-term contract," which deviates from past conventions. Coach Moriyasu will lead the team until next March, after which he is scheduled to be replaced by a new head coach. Such a short-term contract is a rare occurrence in the Japanese football world.
Moriyasu has led the national team since 2018 and achieved significant results, including victories over Germany and Spain at the 2022 Qatar tournament. While he successfully unified the team during this World Cup as well, it is believed that this decision was made to prepare for a new management structure following the tournament's conclusion.
A successor for the period after next March has not yet been decided. The Japan Football Association plans to move forward with selecting a candidate to build an even stronger team for the next World Cup. Many fans are now focusing their attention on the matches leading up to next March, which will be the final games under Moriyasu's leadership.
