International Parliamentarians Visit Taiwan's Kinmen Island to Witness Cross-Strait Tensions Firsthand

Members of parliament from various countries, including the United Kingdom and New Zealand, have inspected the waters surrounding Taiwan's Kinmen Island. This visit was conducted to allow international leaders to directly observe the current state of rising tensions between Taiwan and China.

The participants were members of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC). Sitting lawmakers from countries such as the UK, New Zealand, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine, as well as a former lawmaker from India, boarded a patrol vessel from Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration to tour the waters near Kinmen.

Kinmen Island is located just a few kilometers from mainland China and serves as the front line of Taiwan's national defense. Recently, increased activity by Chinese vessels in these waters has led to growing security concerns. By boarding the vessel, the lawmakers were reportedly able to sense the tense atmosphere of the area firsthand.

Luke de Pulford, the Executive Director of IPAC, also accompanied the delegation. He emphasized the critical importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait to the international community, noting that any conflict in the region could significantly impact the economy and security of all of Asia, including Japan.

This visit demonstrated an international commitment to supporting Taiwan's current status and advocating for peace. For Japan, the situation in neighboring Taiwan is of great importance. The world continues to watch closely to see how the international community will protect the peace of this region moving forward.
