Massive AI Investment Faces Challenge of Balancing Returns
Currently, investment in artificial intelligence (AI) technology is rapidly accelerating around the world. According to the latest research, investment in areas such as the data centers that support AI is expected to reach nearly $1.1 trillion (approximately 160 trillion yen) by 2027.
However, it has been pointed out that compared to the scale of these investments, AI-related revenue remains low. Expert projections suggest that total AI-related revenue by 2026 will likely be limited to between $150 billion and $200 billion.
Economists estimate that in order to achieve results commensurate with this massive investment, the use of AI will need to increase corporate productivity to 2.7 times its current level. How efficiently AI can transform society and business will be a major focus moving forward.
While many companies in Japan are also proceeding with AI adoption, the question of "how to generate profit equal to the investment" will become critical in the future. Beyond just the evolution of technology, careful debate continues worldwide regarding how to utilize it to create economic value.
