Japanese Government to Establish New Organization for Hosting International Sports Events
The Japanese government has decided to establish a new organization to attract international sports events, such as the Rugby World Cup and the Winter Olympics, to Japan. This was revealed by several government officials.
Until now, bidding activities for such events have been led primarily by individual sports federations. However, a permanent consultative body is now set to be created to ensure stronger collaboration between the government and relevant organizations. The goal is to advance bidding efforts under an "All-Japan" framework.
To support this initiative, the Japan Sports Agency is expected to allocate approximately 500 million yen in the fiscal year 2027 budget. This funding will be used to cover costs associated with supporting bidding activities and the hosting of events.
Japan has successfully hosted many international events in the past and has received high acclaim for doing so. With the creation of this new organization, it is expected that Japan will be able to attract international events more efficiently and strategically in the future.
