Taiwanese Military Conducts Exercises for Offshore Island Defense
The Taiwanese military began the live-fire portion of its annual large-scale military exercise, "Han Kuang 42," on the 6th. On this, the second day of the drills, critical training took place on Green Island and Orchid Island, which are offshore islands located in Taitung County in eastern Taiwan.
This training was conducted under the scenario of an enemy force attempting to seize the offshore islands. To prevent the Chinese military from utilizing these islands as forward operating bases, the Taiwanese military verified specific procedures for successfully defending them.
The security environment surrounding Taiwan is extremely severe, and the situation in the Taiwan Strait is of great importance to Japan as well. Consequently, this defensive training by the Taiwanese military is being closely watched as a move to maintain regional stability.
The exercises are scheduled to continue for several more days. Through training that simulates various scenarios, the Taiwanese military aims to improve its defensive capabilities.
