Prime Minister Kishida to Emphasize Importance of 'Rule of Law' at UN General Assembly
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is scheduled to attend and deliver an address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA. In this speech, he will convey to the world the concept of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)," which serves as a pillar of Japan's diplomacy.
The Prime Minister is expected to emphasize the importance of upholding an international order based on the "rule of law" and refusing to accept any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force. He also plans to touch upon the necessity for countries to cooperate in protecting freedom of navigation at sea and maintaining a peaceful international community.
Furthermore, discussions are expected to take place regarding international issues such as the situation in the Middle East. Stable energy supply (energy security) is extremely important for a country like Japan with limited resources, and the Prime Minister intends to call for international cooperation on this issue as well.
This UN General Assembly is taking place amidst ongoing conflicts and divisions around the world. As a member of the international community's leadership, Japan will once again appeal to the world for peaceful resolutions through dialogue.
