Drone spotted near Taiwan airbase; takeoffs and landings temporarily suspended
Taiwan's Air Force Command announced on the 8th that a drone was spotted flying in the vicinity of Ching Chuan Kang Air Base in Taichung City. As a result, the base temporarily suspended the takeoff and landing of both military and civilian aircraft to ensure safety.
According to the Air Force, the drone was discovered at approximately 7:37 p.m. on the 8th. Because of the potential disruption to base operations, security in the surrounding area was immediately heightened. To protect the safety of the airport, aircraft using the airfield were instructed to hold temporarily.
In Taiwan, flying drones near airports and military facilities is strictly restricted by law. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, and authorities are strongly urging drone operators not to operate in no-fly zones.
Regarding this incident, the Air Force continues to strengthen surveillance in the area and is taking measures to ensure safe operations. The duration of the impact on aircraft operations and the identity of the drone are currently under investigation.
