Taiwan's President Lai and Vice President Hsiao announce donations to earthquake-stricken Kumamoto Prefecture
The Presidential Office of Taiwan announced on the 30th that President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim will each make personal donations to support the areas affected by the earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture.
The donation amount from each is 200,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 1.01 million Japanese Yen). This gesture demonstrates the commitment of Taiwan's top two leaders to stand with the people of Kumamoto who have been affected by the disaster.
Taiwan and Japan have a history of helping each other whenever major disasters have occurred. This support is being highlighted as a renewed testament to the friendly relationship between the two regions.
