Prime Minister Ishiba Holds First In-Person Meeting with President Zelenskyy, Confirms Continued Support for Ukraine
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has held his first in-person meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This marks their first direct dialogue since Prime Minister Ishiba took office last October.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ishiba emphasized that "it is extremely important for the international community to remain united in continuing to support Ukraine in order to achieve a lasting peace." He reaffirmed the Japanese government's stance to continue its support for Ukraine moving forward.
President Zelenskyy once again invited Prime Minister Ishiba to visit Ukraine. The President also expressed interest in Japan's advanced technology in the field of air defense, noting his expectation that Japanese cooperation would be a significant strength for Ukraine.
This meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm the cooperative relationship between Japan and Ukraine amidst the ongoing Russian invasion. Attention is now focused on how Japan will continue to proceed with its support for Ukraine in cooperation with the international community.
