Padel, Go, and Pickleball Newly Join the Japan Sport Association
The Japan Sport Association (JSPO) has announced the addition of three new sports organizations. The groups joining this time represent padel, Go, and pickleball. With these sports officially recognized, it is expected that their popularity and development within Japan will further advance.
Padel and pickleball are racket sports that have been attracting attention in Japan in recent years. Padel is a sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, characterized by playing with the walls surrounding the court. Meanwhile, pickleball is a sport originating from the United States, played on a court roughly the size of a badminton court using a perforated plastic ball. Both are easy for beginners to start and are growing in popularity as sports that can be enjoyed by a wide range of generations.
Additionally, the inclusion of the traditional board game "Go" has become a major topic of conversation. Go was highly evaluated for its competitive nature and educational value as a "mind sport." With this membership, Go will be more widely recognized as a sport rather than just a game.
The addition of these new organizations to the JSPO will make Japanese sports culture more diverse. This will serve as an opportunity for previously lesser-known disciplines to gain attention, increasing the chances for many people to try new sports. There is much anticipation for the future activities of each organization.
