JICA and Borderless Japan co-host business event aimed at solving social issues in Africa
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Borderless Japan, an organization that supports social entrepreneurs, have co-hosted a business event aimed at solving social issues in Africa. The event was designed to connect Japanese and African companies and entrepreneurs, exploring the potential for new business ventures to address local challenges.
In recent years, while Africa has experienced rapid economic growth, many social issues remain to be solved, including poverty, education, and environmental problems. During this event, discussions were held on how to build sustainable business models through a deep understanding of local needs. By gaining insight into the real-world situation on the ground, participants learned how Japanese companies can contribute effectively.
Furthermore, the event was driven by a strong desire from both organizations to promote "social business," which aims to solve social problems. A database that allows users to search for social business operators across Japan has also been made public, creating an environment that encourages more companies to engage with social issues.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that the cooperative relationship between Japan and Africa will deepen further. Moving forward, the movement to leverage the power of business to solve social problems around the world is expected to become increasingly active within Japan.
