Taiwan's Volunteer Soldiers Increase by 5,000; Improved Benefits and Relaxed Requirements Prove Effective
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense has revealed that the number of volunteer soldiers as of June this year increased by approximately 5,000 compared to the same period last year. In recent years, Taiwan has been implementing reforms to strengthen its military power, and this announcement is drawing attention as an indication of the results of these efforts.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the primary reason for the increase in volunteer soldiers is the improvement in the treatment of personnel. Specifically, salary increases and improvements to living environments were implemented. Additionally, the ministry explained that relaxing the requirements for enlistment was another factor that made it easier for more people to apply.
Furthermore, the number of volunteer soldiers is expected to continue increasing. According to the Ministry of National Defense's projections, an additional increase of more than 3,000 is anticipated between 2024 and 2025. As a result, the likelihood of Taiwan being able to secure stable personnel for self-defense is rising.
Taiwan's security is also a critically important issue for its neighbor, Japan. Amid ongoing tensions in East Asia, there is growing interest within Japan regarding how Taiwan will maintain its defense capabilities. Moving forward, Taiwan's military trends are expected to continue having a significant impact on regional peace.
