Attracting Overseas STEM Talent to Japan: METI Promotes Internship Program
The Japan Association of New Economy (JANE) held a seminar to facilitate the acceptance of overseas STEM talent active in fields such as IT, AI, and semiconductors into Japanese companies. This initiative aims to address the shortage of digital talent currently facing Japan's industrial sector.
During the seminar, the practical application of the "Global South – Japan Tech Talent Internship Program," implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), was introduced in detail. This program is designed to connect outstanding students and engineers, particularly from the rapidly growing Global South nations, with Japanese companies.
In recent years, securing talent in advanced technology fields has become an urgent priority within Japan. Through this seminar, it is expected that many companies will actively recruit young overseas talent, thereby accelerating the improvement of Japanese companies' technological capabilities and their global expansion.
JANE intends to continue its efforts to promote a proper understanding of IT and e-business and to contribute to government policy-making. For Japanese companies to maintain global competitiveness, the cross-border exchange and utilization of talent are becoming increasingly important.
