Nippon Ishin no Kai to Field 20 Candidates in Next Spring's Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly Election
Hirofumi Yoshimura, leader of Nippon Ishin no Kai (and Governor of Osaka Prefecture), held a press conference in Fukuoka City on the 29th. During the conference, he announced a goal of fielding 20 candidates for the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly election (87 seats) to be held next spring.
Currently, Nippon Ishin no Kai is aiming to grow into a nationwide political party, but some have pointed out that the party is struggling to expand its influence outside of the Kansai region. This challenge in the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly election is being positioned as an important step toward expanding the party's influence across the country.
On the other hand, some within the party have expressed cautious opinions, suggesting that "rather than expanding nationwide, we should focus our efforts on our stronghold in the Kansai region." The Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly has historically been under the strong influence of certain powerful figures, and as that influence wanes, attention is focused on how many seats Ishin will be able to secure.
This decision will serve as a litmus test for how Nippon Ishin no Kai will expand its support as a national party in the future. The results of next spring's election are likely to have a significant impact on the party's future management and strategy.
