North Korea's Kim Yo-jong Denies "Denuclearization Goal" Following US-China Summit
Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, has issued a new statement. In it, she strongly denied the details released by the U.S. government regarding the "denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula." This relates to the outcome of the U.S.-China summit held in May.
Following the U.S.-China summit in May, the U.S. government explained that both countries had reaffirmed the goal of the "complete denuclearization of North Korea." The U.S. side emphasized its stance on cooperating with China toward a resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue.
However, Kim Yo-jong criticized the U.S. announcement as "not true." She reaffirmed North Korea's long-standing position that it will never give up its nuclear weapons. Furthermore, she expressed strong dissatisfaction with the continued pressure the United States is exerting on North Korea.
North Korea has recently increased its military activities, leading to heightened tensions with neighboring countries. This statement is also seen as an attempt to strongly assert their will and demonstrate an unyielding stance toward the United States and its allies.
Kim Yo-jong's latest statement could make dialogue between the United States and North Korea even more difficult. The international community is closely watching North Korea's future actions and how China will respond to them.
