From Taiwan to Prague: The Bonds of International Cooperation Demonstrated by Successful Pangolin Breeding
Zdeněk Hřib, the former mayor of Prague, Czech Republic, spoke in an interview about the cooperative relationship with Taiwan. Hřib cited the successful breeding of pangolins loaned from Taiwan as one of the achievements he is most proud of during his time as mayor.
In 2022, pangolins were loaned from a Taiwanese zoo to the Prague Zoo. The following year, a baby pangolin was born at the Prague Zoo. This was the first successful case of its kind in a European zoo and attracted significant attention around the world.
Pangolins are rare animals that are feared to be at risk of extinction. This breeding success is the result of experts from Taiwan and the Czech Republic working together and taking animal conservation seriously. Through this success, Hřib strongly emphasized that "Taiwan is a reliable partner."
This event went beyond a simple loan of animals and served as a catalyst for deepening the friendly relations between Taiwan and European countries. It is hoped that such international cooperation will continue to play an important role in protecting global biodiversity.
