LDP's Furuya, sanctioned by China, reveals message from Prime Minister Takaichi
Keiji Furuya of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), who serves as chairman of the bipartisan Japan-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Association, revealed on the 9th the contents of an email he received from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi via his social media. The message was sent by Takaichi when Furuya was subjected to sanctions, including asset freezes, by the Chinese government this past March.
According to Furuya, Takaichi stated in the email that the sanctions from China were "a very honorable sanction." Furuya has been actively working to deepen friendly relations with Taiwan, and it is believed that the Chinese side decided on the sanctions because they took issue with this stance.
The disclosure of the email's contents has sparked various reactions within the government. Some lawmakers have raised concerns about the potential diplomatic impact, while others have questioned whether the remarks were appropriate for a Prime Minister.
This disclosure has brought renewed attention to the relationship between China and Japan, as well as the stances of politicians toward China. There is interest from various quarters regarding how this matter will influence future diplomatic policy and parliamentary discussions.
