A wave of discounts in major stores to ease the burdens on consumers

The two largest discount chains in Germany, Aldi and Lidl, announced a permanent reduction in prices for hundreds of products, in a move aimed at easing the burden on consumers amid difficult economic conditions. This initiative comes in response to increasing pressures resulting from rising living costs, and this step has prompted other chains like Edeka, Netto, Kaufland, Rewe, and Penny to make similar decisions.

In detail, Lidl announced that it will permanently reduce the prices of more than 500 products, describing this move as "the largest price reduction in its history." Aldi, on the other hand, spoke about reducing the prices of around 1000 products and confirmed that it plans further reductions on hundreds of other products in the coming weeks.

Felix Rottmann, the head of Aldi Nord in Germany, confirmed that the price leadership policy is the foundation of the company's operations, noting that Aldi has already reduced prices on about 1,000 products since the beginning of the year. For his part, Swen Gallina, from the board of Aldi Süd, stated that it is the company's duty to ensure that everyone has access to good products regardless of income or living situation.

For its part, Lidl clarified that the price reductions are not a short-term promotional campaign, but rather a "long-term strategic decision," confirming that it is able to implement these reductions thanks to stable and long-term agreements with suppliers and large purchase quantities.

All these moves reflect a general trend in the German retail market towards supporting consumers amid ongoing economic pressures and rising costs of daily living.
