Dilan Yeşilgöz: "We will not ally with Wilders again!"
The leader of the VVD party, Dilan Yeşilgöz, announced in an interview with the Telegraaf newspaper that she will not participate again in a government coalition with the far-right PVV party led by Geert Wilders. Yeşilgöz described Wilders as "an utterly unreliable partner," emphasizing that the Netherlands needs "mature leadership." She confirmed: "We will not work with him again."
This statement came after the collapse of the Dutch government more than a week ago, where Wilders had ended the four-party coalition after the leaders of the other three parties refused to sign his ten-point plan to limit immigration.
Yeshilgoz said she made this decision after talks with several members of her party over the past week, adding: "None of them said that Wilders deserves another chance."
The latest opinion polls show a tie between the PVV and VVD parties and the GroenLinks-PvdA social democratic and green coalition, ahead of the general elections scheduled for October 29.
Yeshilgoz refused to disclose the parties that might be willing to work with her in the future.
