Germany is preparing for the snowstorm Leoni: The highest level of weather warning in most parts of Germany!
Germany is entering a severe winter storm as the snowstorm Leoni sweeps across the country, bringing heavy snow, ice, and frost. Starting from Sunday afternoon, areas on the outskirts of the Alps and the south will experience heavy snowfall, before quickly spreading towards the west and central Germany.
By Monday, snow accumulations of up to 15 cm are expected in some areas. Roads are expected to become nearly impassable, train services will be disrupted, and daily life will be significantly slowed down. Even during the day, frost remains on the ground, retaining the snow, which makes movement more difficult.
The east and southeast of Germany are facing the most serious dangers, as Lusatia and Brandenburg are at the highest levels of risk due to black ice. Freezing rain on frozen roads will create dangerous conditions, increasing the likelihood of accidents, transport cancellations, and difficulties in emergency response.
Northern Germany will experience the peak of the storm on Monday, with continuous heavy snowfall extending from the north to the southwest. Snow accumulation of 5 to 15 cm is expected over twelve hours, with increasing wind speeds along the Baltic Sea raising the risk of dangerous snow drifts.
Experts warn that Leoni may surpass previous storms, including the snow low Eli, which will push large parts of Germany to the maximum level of impact. At the same time, severe weather is also expected in Portugal, with unusual heavy rains threatening flooding in the coming days.
