A 15-year-old Austrian is arrested again on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act.
A 15-year-old Austrian teenager has been arrested in Vienna after authorities suspected him of planning a terrorist act, despite having previously undergone monitoring and care after being released from prison. Officials confirmed his continued adoption of extremist ideas.
The teenager had previously been arrested in February 2025 at the age of 14 for planning an attack at the Westbahnhof train station. He spent eight months in pre-trial detention on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist or criminal organization before being released under supervision.
The Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight Against Extremism in Vienna reported that investigations showed the teenager's continued inclination towards extremist propaganda, along with a notable interest in knives and similar items. Authorities recommended taking further measures due to his continued radical behavior.
On November 25, 2025, based on instructions from the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, they carried out a raid at the suspect's home in the Hernals district with the participation of the Cobra unit of the Special Forces Directorate. His mobile phone was seized after materials suspected of being linked to extremism were found.
The teenager has been officially detained on suspicion of attempting "criminal conspiracy" under Article 277, paragraph 1 of the Penal Code, and "terrorist crimes" under Article 278c, paragraph 1, number 10. Authorities have requested his provisional detention, while the accused has refused to make any statements so far.
