Asthma Cases Rise Sharply Due to Poor Air Quality

The Malaysian Ministry of Health has reported a significant increase in asthma cases nationwide recently. This rise is directly linked to deteriorating air quality, which has sparked concern among the public.

According to the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, 219 asthma cases were recorded in the 33rd epidemiological week. This figure shows a very substantial increase compared to only 61 cases in the previous week.

Overall, the statistics recorded an increase of 259 percent in just one week. This sudden surge in figures serves as a warning to the authorities regarding the adverse effects of air pollution on public health.

The ministry advises the public, especially high-risk groups such as children and the elderly, to be more cautious. People are encouraged to reduce outdoor activities and always wear face masks when air quality is at an unhealthy level.

The public is also urged to consistently monitor the latest air quality reports through official government channels. Early preventive measures are essential to ensure the health of oneself and one's family is maintained throughout this period of poor air quality.
