Nepal Floods: Malaysia Ready to Send SMART Team for Relief Mission
Malaysia is currently on standby to send a Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) to Nepal to assist victims severely affected by floods in the country. However, the government is still awaiting the green light from Nepalese authorities before the relief mission can commence.
According to Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malaysia remains committed to providing humanitarian aid to friendly nations struck by disasters. The SMART team, consisting of highly trained personnel, possesses extensive experience in international rescue operations.
Flood conditions in Nepal are reported to be very concerning, with many residential areas destroyed and residents left cut off. The Malaysian government is monitoring the situation's developments from time to time through diplomatic channels to ensure that the aid provided meets the actual needs on the ground.
In addition to rescue team assistance, Malaysia is also prepared to extend logistical support and basic supplies if requested by the Nepalese government. This step is part of Malaysia's ongoing efforts to support the international community when facing natural disaster crises.
For now, all logistical preparations and team members have been placed on standby. The government hopes that the aid coordination process will proceed smoothly so that immediate support can be channeled to the victims in need in Nepal.
