Air Quality Deteriorates: 18 Areas in Malaysia Record Unhealthy Readings
Air quality in several areas in Malaysia has been reported to be deteriorating recently. As of today, a total of 18 areas across the country, including Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, have recorded air quality readings at an unhealthy level.
This haze situation is caused by southwesterly winds bringing smoke from hotspots in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia. The persistent dry weather conditions have caused these fine particles to spread more easily into our country's airspace.
In addition to Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, several areas in the state of Selangor have also been severely affected by this phenomenon. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure that safety measures can be taken to protect public health.
Members of the public are advised to reduce physical activities outdoors throughout this haze period. Furthermore, the use of face masks is highly encouraged for those who need to be in open areas to avoid respiratory problems.
The Department of Environment will continue to provide updates on the air quality status from time to time. The public is requested to always refer to the official websites of the authorities to obtain accurate and authentic information regarding the haze situation in their respective areas.
