Haze Emergency in Serian, Sarawak Lifted
The Malaysian government has officially lifted the state of emergency in the Serian district of Sarawak. This decision was made after air quality in the area showed significant improvement compared to the previous week.
Previously, the Serian district was placed under an emergency order due to hazardous haze levels caused by forest fires. Authorities took this measure to ensure the safety of residents and to facilitate the more effective delivery of emergency assistance.
Although the haze situation is now subsiding, health authorities continue to remind the public to remain vigilant. Health risks still exist because fine particles in the air may still affect the respiratory system, especially for children and the elderly.
Members of the public are advised to continue monitoring the Air Pollutant Index (API) through official Department of Environment channels. Precautionary measures such as wearing face masks and reducing outdoor activities are still encouraged should air quality deteriorate again.
Authorities will continue to monitor the situation from time to time to ensure the safety of residents in Sarawak is guaranteed. Public cooperation is crucial in maintaining environmental cleanliness to prevent the recurrence of haze in the future.
