Health Group Urges Government to Tighten Tobacco Product Controls in 2027 Budget
A health organization, MyWatch, has submitted key proposals to the government ahead of the 2027 Budget presentation. They are urging authorities to take firm measures to reduce tobacco consumption rates and nicotine addiction among Malaysians.
Among the main proposals put forward are increasing taxes on tobacco products and banning the sale of vapes containing nicotine. This step is seen as a proactive effort to protect public health from the harmful effects of the dangerous chemicals found in these products.
Furthermore, MyWatch also suggests that the government reinstate the Generational End Game (GEG) provision. This policy aims to ensure that the younger generation does not fall into smoking habits, thereby reducing the burden of treatment costs for tobacco-related diseases borne by the national health system.
These proposals are part of a commitment to implement evidence-based measures to reduce public exposure to cigarette smoke. MyWatch hopes that the government will consider these suggestions in the 2027 Budget for the long-term well-being of the Malaysian people.
