National Climate Change Bill Needs to be Expedited
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, emphasized that Malaysia needs to accelerate efforts in addressing climate change issues. He stated that the National Climate Change Bill (RUUPIN) is a crucial step to ensure the country has a stronger legal framework to face current environmental challenges.
According to Nik Nazmi, the delay in tabling this bill must be addressed immediately. He explained that RUUPIN is not just a policy document, but an essential mechanism that will enable Malaysia to manage the impacts of climate change more effectively and systematically at the national level.
The implementation of this law is expected to increase awareness and responsibility among various parties, including the private sector and government agencies, in reducing carbon footprints. Furthermore, it will help Malaysia fulfill its international commitments in efforts to address increasingly alarming global warming.
In conclusion, the government is committed to ensuring that this legislation is aligned with current climate needs. This step is seen as Malaysia's proactive effort to protect the environment for the well-being of future generations and to ensure the sustainability of the country's economy is preserved.
