Air Quality Declines: Eight Areas in Peninsular Malaysia Record Unhealthy Readings

Air quality in several areas across Peninsular Malaysia is reported to have deteriorated today. The Department of Environment confirmed that eight areas recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an unhealthy level as of 10 a.m.

According to the authorities, API readings between 101 and 200 are categorized as unhealthy. This situation is concerning for local residents as it can affect health, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems.

For comparison, API readings between 0 and 50 are considered good, while 51 to 100 are at a moderate level. Authorities are constantly monitoring air quality conditions nationwide to ensure accurate data can be conveyed to the public promptly.

The public is advised to reduce outdoor physical activities for the time being to avoid adverse effects from the haze. Additionally, residents are encouraged to wear face masks if they need to go out and ensure adequate daily intake of plain water.

The Ministry of Health Malaysia also reminds the public to immediately seek treatment at nearby clinics or hospitals if they experience symptoms such as coughing, a cold, or difficulty breathing. Continuous monitoring will be conducted to ensure the safety of the residents is guaranteed.
