Dengue Cases in Malaysia Rise Sharply in 2026
Malaysia recorded an alarming 56 percent increase in dengue cases throughout 2026. This sharp rise has become a serious concern for health authorities as it puts pressure on hospital systems across the country.
Although a dengue vaccine is now available to the public, the uptake rate remains low. Many residents are found to be less interested in obtaining this immunization to protect themselves from Aedes mosquito infections.
According to reports, there are several key factors contributing to this issue. Among them are the cost of the vaccine, which is considered high for some groups, as well as the limited level of public awareness regarding the importance of vaccination.
Furthermore, issues with access to healthcare facilities also serve as a barrier for residents in certain areas to obtain the vaccine. These constraints hinder the government's efforts to achieve broader immunization targets among the public.
The Ministry of Health is currently looking for ways to increase public awareness about the dangers of dengue. The public is advised to continue maintaining environmental cleanliness to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds as a primary preventive measure.
