MediAsas Health Plan to Launch in 2027 with Subsidies for Employees
The Malaysian government has announced the launch of a new health plan known as MediAsas, which is scheduled to begin in January 2027. This initiative aims to improve access to healthcare services for Malaysians by introducing a more transparent hospital charging system based on the diagnosis and treatment received.
One of the main focuses of this plan is support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Employers in the SME category will receive a premium subsidy of RM200 for each eligible employee. This measure is expected to ease the financial burden on employers while ensuring that employees receive adequate health coverage.
To facilitate premium payments, eligible members of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) are permitted to use funds from their Akaun Sejahtera. This payment method provides flexibility for employees to manage their health coverage costs without having to pay cash directly from their monthly income.
