Growing Concern: More Young Malaysians Developing Diabetes
The Malaysian Ministry of Health has issued a serious warning regarding the rise in type 2 diabetes cases among Malaysians under the age of 30. Recent data shows that this health issue is no longer limited to the elderly, but is now starting to affect the younger generation at an alarming rate.
According to records from the National Diabetes Registry (NDR), 1,932 patients under the age of 30 were registered throughout 2025. This figure shows an increase compared to the 1,926 cases recorded the previous year, reflecting a trend that requires immediate attention from authorities and the public.
Health experts state that an unhealthy lifestyle is the main cause of this increase in cases. The consumption of food high in sugar, lack of physical activity, and unbalanced eating habits are often linked to the risk of diabetes among young people.
As a preventive measure, the ministry encourages the public to be more aware of their personal health by undergoing regular check-ups. In addition, awareness campaigns regarding the importance of healthy eating and an active lifestyle will continue to be intensified to curb the spread of this disease from continuing to rise among the nation's younger generation.
