Malaysian society is currently facing major challenges that require serious attention from all parties. According to the view of public health expert Dr. Goh Heong Keong, our country is experiencing a social 'disease' that could jeopardize harmony if not addressed immediately.
Dr. Goh emphasized that the root cause of this problem is the attitude of prejudice or bias toward one another. He believes that racial and religious differences are often used as tools by certain parties to divide the people for personal political gain.
Furthermore, rhetoric that divides society is seen to be increasingly prevalent. The use of words that touch on racial sensitivities often creates tension, thereby hindering efforts to build a more advanced and united nation.
To overcome this problem, Malaysians are urged to reject all forms of division and return to the values of unity. We need to be wiser in evaluating information and not be easily influenced by agendas that can damage inter-racial relations.
