Malaysian Medical Association Urges Government to Address Doctor Shortage in 2027 Budget
The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has urged the government to give serious attention to the issue of losing doctors and medical specialists in the upcoming 2027 Budget. This call follows deep concerns regarding the trend of resignations among medical staff in the public sector.
According to the latest data, a total of 3,494 doctors have left the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH). This figure is considered alarming as it has a direct impact on the quality of healthcare services provided to the public at government hospitals and clinics nationwide.
MMA stated that this issue must be addressed urgently through more effective allocations in the national budget. Among the points emphasized are the need to improve welfare, workloads, and career opportunities for young doctors and medical specialists so that they continue to serve within the public health system.
The continuous loss of specialized human resources not only burdens the doctors who are still on duty but could also lead to longer waiting times for patients. Therefore, the association hopes that the government can formulate long-term strategies to retain local medical talent.
In conclusion, this issue represents a major challenge for Malaysia's health sector. It is hoped that the government will consider the proposals from the MMA to ensure that the country's health system remains sustainable and capable of providing the best treatment to all Malaysians.
