Former Prime Minister Najib Razak Allowed to Serve House Arrest
Former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, has been granted permission to serve the remainder of his prison sentence through house arrest. This decision follows an application submitted by him regarding the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund misappropriation case.
The Pardons Board had previously reduced Najib's prison sentence from 12 years to six years. With this latest decision, he is permitted to complete the remainder of his sentence at his private residence, subject to strict conditions set by prison authorities.
The 1MDB case is one of the largest financial scandals to ever rock Malaysia and has garnered international attention. Najib Razak was found guilty of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering related to funds from SRC International, a subsidiary of 1MDB.
Najib's lawyers stated that this decision is based on legal provisions that allow prisoners to serve sentences outside of prison for certain cases. However, this development continues to be a hot topic of discussion among Malaysians and local political observers.
Currently, the public is awaiting further details regarding the conditions of the house arrest. Authorities are expected to monitor the situation closely to ensure that legal procedures are fully complied with throughout the duration of his sentence.
